Robert Stavinoha, affectionately known as “Pop” was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away in his home at the age of 90 on October 29, 2023, in his hometown of Oklahoma City. Born on June 20, 1933, in Oklahoma City, Robert was the son of Rudolph and Ida Stavinoha. Robert honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. He returned to the states in November 1955.
Robert then met and married the love of his life, Rosa Lee Gibson in December 1964. They made their home in Oklahoma City where they raised their 3 boys. He wanted to be so much a part of his kid’s lives that he would rush home from work to play basketball, football, “wiffle” ball, and probably his favorite game was playing “Hoop” in the swimming pool with his sons and all of the neighborhood kids. Pop also made time in his busy schedule to coach 2 of his son’s basketball teams. Pop also was Cub Scout leader. He wasn’t just Pop to his sons, he was Pop to everyone. Pop loved to bowl and when his sons were able to play on the team with him, it was his favorite thing to do. Later in his life, he developed a passion for golfing. He would go every weekend and play with his best friend Paul. He really enjoyed going golfing with his sons and grandsons.
He played an important role as Sanitation Superintendent at the City of OKC for ten years. From there, he went into sales. He was an amazing salesperson with strong work ethics which were the foundation of his beliefs. He worked until the age of 90 years old selling municipal equipment. He never really retired. He was known for his savviness and was respected by his coworkers, employers and competitors.
He is preceded in death by Parents, Rudoph and Ida and Brother James Charles. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Rosa Lee; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert John Jr. and Rosalie; Michael Ray and Robbie; Stephen Jerome and Tammy; his grandchildren, Nicole Rose, Sarah Ann, Michael Allen, Rachel Lynn, Laura Dawn, Nicholas Andrew, and Zachary Stephen; and five great-grandchildren; as well as other family members and friends.
Funeral Services will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5024 N. Grove Ave., Oklahoma City on November 3, 2023, at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In memory of Pop, flowers may be sent to the church.
