Rollin Barnes "Barney" Harrington died peacefully on March 7, 2012 in Edmond, OK. He was born March 4, 1923 in Okmulgee, OK to Eula Faye Clarkson Harrington and Rollin Barnes Harrington. His father was a geologist and his family moved frequently. He graduated from Tulsa Central High School and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war, he attended the University of Oklahoma where he received his BS degree in Geology. Barney began his career as a petroleum geologist with The Ohio Oil Co. (Marathon). He and his sweetheart, Emily Lee Whittington, were married for 63 years. They had four children, Carolyn, Rollin, Eugene, and Janet. Barney and his family lived and traveled around the world. Later in his career, he explored his entrepreneurial spirit by investing in various business ventures. In the 70s, he returned to his passion for geology. In 1988, he retired from Coastal Oil & Gas to their dream home in Frisco, CO. Barney was an avid Sooner football fan, a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity, OKC Kiwanis Club and The Young Men's Club (until 89 years young!) For 30 years of his life, Barney and Emily lived in what they called "God's Country", Colorado. His family and many friends around the world brought great joy to his life. He is survived by his loving wife Emily; his daughters Carolyn Harrington of Denver, CO and Janet (Bob) Eskridge of Edmond, OK; his sons Rollin (Wanda) of OKC and Gene (Hazel) of Rose, OK; and many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Euta Maye Simpson. The family would like to thank the staffs of Grace Living Center and Good Shepherd Hospice for their loving care. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Ave, OKC, OK, 73134.
