Rosemary Berney

Rosemary Berney, 89, beloved sister and aunt, passed away August 16, 2012. Rosemary was born November 1 (All Saints Day), 1922 to Joseph Patrick and Gladys (Lednicky) Berney in Horton, KS. She moved with her family to Oklahoma City in 1935 where she later graduated from Classen High School. She attended Oklahoma City University and then Business College. Rosemary began a career at Cities Service Gas Company, was named Executive Secretary to the President of the company, and later appointed Executive Travel Coordinator. She was a life-long Catholic and a member of The Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for many years where she was involved in numerous activities. She belonged to Our Lady's Altar Society, Criterion Book Club, and several bridge clubs. Rosemary was a delightful, colorful, and fun loving lady with a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed fashion, traveling, outings with her numerous friends, and she especially loved spending time with her family. Although she never had children of her own, she was loved by a large extended family who all considered her a special member of their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers- John Joseph and his wife Marge, Robert, and Paul and wife De, her sister Jeanette, brother-in-law Tom Harrigan, and her niece Julie Harrigan Sharp. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Harrigan of Houston, Texas, brother Mike and wife Susan Berney and sister-in-law Mary Beth Berney, all of Oklahoma City, 16 nieces and nephews, 34 great nieces and nephews, 7 great, great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. Evening prayer service will be held Sunday, August 19, at 5:00 pm at Smith & Kernke 14624 N. May Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8005 Dorset Drive, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Central Oklahoma Chapter, 2123 N. Classen Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73106.
