Ruth Eager Moran was born on Sept. 8, 1923, in Tell City, Indiana, to Dr. Sherman W. Eager and Ernestine Mary Foerster. The oldest of six children, she grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where her father was head of the Physics Department at Oklahoma State University. Mrs. Moran graduated at age 16 from Stillwater High School in 1940 and was recognized as the top mathematics student in the State. At age 19 she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Government from OSU in 1943. She graduated at age 23 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1945 and in 1999 she was recognized as one of the pioneers of women lawyers in Oklahoma. Following graduation, Mrs. Moran worked for the State of Oklahoma at the State Land Office from 1946-48. Mrs. Moran married her former law school classmate, John C. Moran, on June 18, 1949; together they formed the law firm of Moran and Moran. After her husband's death in 1987, she managed various family real estate holdings, including four office buildings in OKC. Pursuing her interest in history, Mrs. Moran was a member of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society Board from 1976 until 2006 and during her tenure, she served as President, First Vice President, and Program Chairman. She served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Historical Society from 1981-2001. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to genealogical research in the state of Oklahoma the Ruth Eager Moran Chair was created by the Oklahoma Historical Society and she was the first recipient of the award. Mrs. Moran was appointed by Governor George Nigh to serve as a member of the Oklahoma Records Advisory Board from 1986-94. She was a long standing member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as State Parliamentarian for the Oklahoma DAR. Combining her law school education and her passion for history, Ruth was a frequent speaker on the use of courthouse records as a resource for obtaining genealogical information. Always interested in her children's activities, Mrs. Moran served as a Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother when her children were in scouting. Mrs. Moran was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Dr. Ella L. Sheehan and Ruby S. Moore. Mrs. Moran is survived by her two children and their spouses, Susan Moran Crowder and Craig S. Crowder, of OKC, and Michael J. Moran and Mary Katherine Moran, of Dallas, TX, and five grandchildren, John Dale Crowder, Alison Anne Moran, Sarah Eager Moran, Kevin Scott Crowder, married to Christina M. Crowder, and Ashley K. Crowder, who so lovingly assisted in Mrs. Moran's care during her last illness. Mrs. Moran is also survived by her sister, Mary E. Reynolds and two brothers, John S. Eager and Fred M. Eager, and 3 great grandchildren, Cameron, Spencer and Lucas Crowder. A Rosary will be held at Smith & Kernke on N. May at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday October 14, 2015, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on October 15, 2015, at Christ the King Church, 8005 N. Dorset Drive, OKC, OK.
