Sam Shelburne Furseth, 53, of Nichols Hills passed away on March 8, 2020.Sam was born on January 30, 1967, in Nichols Hills, OK. Sam's early education began at Westminster Day School and continued through graduation from Heritage Hall in 1985. His college career started at the University of Oklahoma. His sophomore year he transferred to the University of San Diego where he was the place kicker and defensive safety for the football program, and ultimately graduated from the University of Oklahoma where he was respected by his Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity brothers, majoring in history in 1990. After graduation he lived in numerous locations, including Aspen and Kansas City, finally settling back in Oklahoma City.Sam, a beloved son, brother, husband and father, was taken from us too soon. Sam lived a life as large as he was tall. Always pushing boundaries and loving life along the way. Starting as a young boy, Sam grew to love the outdoors. He loved catching crawdads and baby frogs from Grand Blvd Creek and putting them in his sister Sherry's bathtub. Sam's later adventures lead him around the globe, which fueled his passion for automobiles and mountains.Sam is survived by his wife, Ashlie Rider Furseth, and their daughters, Hailey Madison & Montanna Ruby; parents, Gerald N. & Betty Ann Furseth; sister, Sherry Furseth; Lena Mae Ingram (who helped raise Sam & Sherry); along with extended family and a multitude of friends.Sam's greatest joy in life was his love for his smart, beautiful, and talented daughters. All three of them shared a love of the outdoors, sports, and astronomy. These are a few of the legacies that will continue to shine in his girls.A celebration of his life will be held at Smith & Kernke Chapel, 14624 N. May Ave in Oklahoma City, and Friday, March 13, 2020 at 1:00p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations may be payable to The Sam Furseth Children's Support Fund in care of Midfirst Bank, (5800 North Western Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73116).
