Sameera Shadid Cohlmia

Sameera Shadid Cohlmia went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 4, 2017 after a courageous battle with kidney and heart illness. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 22, 1933 to Hafeeth and Alexandra Shadid. She graduated from Classen High School in 1951 and attended Oklahoma City University, studying art, music and business. She married the love of her life, Dr. Ray Cohlmia in 1955. They lived in Dallas while Dr. Ray attended Dental School and settled in Oklahoma City in 1959. Together they raised four wonderful children. She was a member of the Dental Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Bonne Heure Club of Oklahoma City, a group of ladies dedicated to providing gifts to needing charities. She held all offices in the club. As a true artist, she needlepointed several wonderful pieces, all hanging or displayed in her home, from ornate rugs to wall pieces to pillows, each signed by her needlepoint signature "SSC." And she loved Christmas. She decorated her home for Christmas starting in October and was known for giving her home guests "tours" of her decorated home and the seven plus Christmas trees throughout the house. One of her greatest joys was being a lifelong member of St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church. She was a grandchild of the first priest of the Church, Fr. Shokrallah Shadid. From her childhood until her passing, she was active in every way she could be. She was the original organist for the choir. She chaired the kitchen area for several years for the annual Food Festival. And she was the Committee Chair of the St. Elijah Culinary Companion Cookbook, which she designed, and is still available today because of her. She was proceeded in death by her daughter Lana K. Cohlmia; parents, Hafeeth and Alexandra Shadid; her brother, sister, and brothers- and sisters-in-law: brother A. Phil Shadid; sister Amy and husband Ed Massad; Harry Homsey; Florence and husband Harry Kouri; Margaret and husband Sam Homsey; Fred and wife Liz Cohlmia; Gordon and wife Minerva Cohlmia; Josephine and husband Ted Shadid; Velma and husband Phil Swyden; George Cohlmia; Dr. Floyd Simon; and Dr. Woody Cohlmia She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Ray Cohlmia; children Dana and husband Daniel Karim; sons Dr. Raymond and wife Sherry Cohlmia and Dr. Matt and wife Susan Cohlmia; and Doug Friesen; grandchildren Nicole and husband Matt Matlock; Danielle and husband Jonathan Cox; Jacob Karim; Olivia Karim; Aubrey Sameera Cohlmia; Derek, Brandon, and Joshua Cohlmia; and Matthew and Blake Cohlmia; and great grandson Soren Michael Ramiz Matlock. She is also survived by her brother, sister, and sisters-in-law: Kathryn Shadid; Sam and wife Nadia Shadid; Yevonne Homsey; Elsie Simon; and Phyllis Cohlmia. She is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews; her Bonne Heure sisters, and many friends. Special thanks to Regina Coleman, Natasha Morrow, and the doctors and nurses at the Mercy Heart Hospital. Services are as follows: Trisagion and Closing of the Casket Service Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 10:00 and Funeral Services at Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 10:30, both at St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church. Final interment will be at Rose Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flowers That Do Not Wither Fund of St. Elijah Orthodox Christian Church.
