Sampson James Morris

Sampson Morris, age 84, passed from his life on Monday, February 22, 2010 in Oklahoma City. He was born to Watkin Morris and Minnie Anderson on December 11, 1925 in Antlers, Oklahoma. His father, Watkin, passed away when Sampson was a young boy. His mother, Minnie, later met and married Isaac Nelson who reared Sampson as his son. To this family came his sister, Emma and his brother Theodore Nelson. Sampson enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 19 and was honorably discharged due to being diagnosed with diabetes. He was a handsome, kind, loving, most yet strong, God fearing man who became endeared to everyone he met. He met and married Cecelia Warrior and to this union was added a son, Eli Warrior and a daughter, Tracie Morris. He was a hard worker and dedicated to providing for his family as he worked for Wilson Meat Company until his retirement. He remained loyal and dedicated to his Christian values and beliefs and was a wonderful witness for the Lord. Sampson loved life, spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, his pets, metal detecting, reading his bible and talking with others about his life experiences, his travels and his Native American Heritage (Choctaw). He delighted in the partaking of traditional native food dishes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Watkin Morris, Minnie Morris Nelson and Isaac Nelson; wife, Cecilia; brother, Theodore and wife, Carrie. He is survived by his son, Eli and wife, Charlotte; his daughter, Tracie and husband, David; his sister, Emma Nelson Pettigrew; brother-in-law, W.C. Pettigrew; 8 grandchildren, Rusan, Christine M., Christina B., Chris, Joseph, Alexander, Yvonne and Ashley; several great grandchildren with the newest born and held in his arms just a few days before his death, Deeken Sampson Morris; 3 nieces, Denise Ruth, Darlene Mason, Diane Pettigrew and 4 nephews, Robert, Darrel, Mike and Joe Pettigrew. Sampson leaves behind to honor and cherish his memory and a huge void in his family's hearts. Sampson was very loved, adored and admired with great respect by his family, friends and all who came into contact with him. He was a very loving, caring and giving person who put others before himself. We are comforted knowing he is with his Lord and Savior and looks down from Heaven smiling and watching over us.
