Sandra Bryan Trudgeon passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 7, 2016. She was born July 27, 1943, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City; the first of three children born to Dorothy Ann (Owen) and Thomas Law Bryan.
Sandy was a proud "Army Brat" who lived lots of places – some exotic, some not. She always said the toughest question she ever had to answer was, "Where are you from?" She graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA., and chose to attend the University of Oklahoma, her parents' alma mater and home to her maternal grandparents, Nina and Bennie Owen. She was initiated into Kappa Alpha Theta, a third generation Theta at OU. In 2012 she celebrated her 50th year as a Theta, and was very proudly a Theta for a lifetime.
Before graduating with a degree in History in 1964, she met Jon Hunter Trudgeon at an OU-USC football "watch party" in 1963 (OU won, 17-12). They married in December 1964, honeymooned at the Gator Bowl, and recently celebrated their 51st Anniversary. Jon was a Judge Advocate in the Air Force assigned to RAF Station Chicksands, and they established their first home in Hitchin, Hartfordshire, England. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1968, and raised their three children, Ann, Kelly and Jon. Sandy was quick to become involved with her church, children's schools, and several community organizations. She was a devoted volunteer for the Junior League, Sunbeam Family Services, and Lyric Theatre, among others, and was a member of Class XIV of Leadership Oklahoma.
In addition to Sandy's significant volunteer activities, she had a working career she loved. She was a long-time salesperson and buyer for Kamber's Gift Store, and following several years as a Trustee of Heritage Hall School, including a term as President of the Board, was hired to serve as the Director of Admissions there. She then became Head of School at St. John's Episcopal School, before retiring to become a full-time grandmother. In every volunteer or employment opportunity, she made treasured, lifelong friends.
Sandy enjoyed very close relationships with all members of her family, and was preceded in death by her father, Colonel Thomas L. Bryan. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Ann Bryan; her husband and hero Jon; their children Ann Trudgeon, Kelly Isaacson and her husband Scott, and Jon Trudgeon and his wife Katie. Sandy was particularly proud of the contributions of her children to their families and to their communities. She is also survived by grandchildren Thomas and Ben Isaacson and Hunter and Henry Trudgeon; her brother and sister-in-law, Rusty and Helene Bryan; her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and David Stussi; her nieces and nephews Jessica Stussi Horowitz, Cary Stussi Martin, Thomas Stussi, Sean Bryan, Megan Bryan, and Randall Bryan; adored cousins; and dozens of dear friends.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 13 at 2:30 p.m. at Church of the Servant, 14343 N. MacArthur Blvd.
Sandy approached each day with positivity and an unwavering desire to help her family and others in any way possible. She remained steadfast in her faith, and in her love and devotion to her family. She supported many charities, recently among them Sunbeam Family Services, Lyric Theatre, Church of the Servant, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her family is certain she would be pleased should you choose to remember her by a gift to your favorite of these or other charities.
