Shirley Ann Cooper

Shirley Ann Cooper died at dawn, September 25, 2013 peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at home. Shirley was born in Oklahoma City on December 31, 1937, the daughter of Clyde and Ann (Doyle) Acton who preceded her in death. A graduate of Rosary Elementary School and Catholic High in 1955, Shirley also attended Mount Saint Scholastica in Atchinson, Kansas. Shirley's Catholic faith was very important to her and evident in the way she lived her life. She was an active parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, cared for the poor and homeless as a member of Saint Vincent De Paul ministry and brought hope and comfort to those in despair through her work as a Contact Crisis Line volunteer. In 1958, Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Dick Cooper. Their 55 year marriage was one of true devotion and love, proving an inspiration to all who knew them. From this enduring union came six children, sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Family was the center of her life, and she particularly cherished her role as grandmother. Shirley blessed her children and grandchildren with her infinite capacity for love, acceptance, kindness and optimism. Shirley leaves behind a remarkable number of friends with whom she shared profound lifelong loyalty. An eager and generous hostess, her laughter and warmth will be missed by all. Shirley is survived by her husband, Dick Cooper, her son Steve Cooper, wife Annamarie and their children Adam, Elaine, Claire and Ann, her daughter Catherine Vaughn, husband Jim and their son Alex, her daughter Rebecca Gordon and her children Matt, Jordan, Genevieve and Liliana and grandson Cooper, her son Michael, wife Rachel, and their children Maegen and Carrie, her daughter Sarah Wienecke, husband Rob, and children Olivia, Luke and Jeffrey, her son Tim, wife Erin and children Elise and Adele. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Laurence Ministry, Christ the King Catholic Church, 8005 Dorset, OKC, OK 73120 would be greatly appreciated.
