Shirley Lewayne James, 78, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, at her home in Oklahoma City. Shirley was born October 15, 1934, in Optima, Oklahoma, to Alfred and Letha Mouser and was raised in Guymon, Oklahoma. Shirley was an independent and self-reliant individual, who made a career as a legal secretary and as an administrative assistant in the oil and gas industry. Shirley was a graduate of the Guymon, Oklahoma, High School Class of 1951, then attending Oklahoma A&M College. Shirley enjoyed visiting and spending time with classmates and close friends too numerous to name. Shirley was an avid reader; she enjoyed the challenge of many types of intellectual puzzles and games, at which she excelled. She enjoyed watching all OU and OSU sporting events. She also became an avid OKC Thunder basketball fan. Shirley also loved to visit the horse track and spent many afternoons there with friends. Shirley was a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church of Oklahoma City and an active participant in the Christian Women's Book Club, the Grand Pointe Ladies Association, and volunteered at Skyline food pantry. Shirley is survived by her sister, Lois Williams and husband Jack, of Scottsdale, Arizona; a daughter, Frances Ann Nicholson, of Moore, Oklahoma; two sons: Troy Lee James and wife Kathy, of Oklahoma City; and Kyle Lynn James and wife Renee, of Fort Worth, Texas. Survivors also include a granddaughter, Rhiannon and husband Phillip Jeffrey; a grandson, Jesse; and two great-grandchildren, Phillip Jr. and Riliegh Jeffrey. Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Clinton Mouser; and her mother, Letha Frances Mouser; and son-in-law, Robert Nicholson. The visitation will be held at the Smith-Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City, OK, on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Lakeside United Methodist Church, 2925 N.W. 66th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73116, on Thursday, January 24 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Moore Cemetery.
