Mac left this life on October 4, 2021 after a lengthy illness.Born on July 28, 1941 to Vern and Ruth Goodwin in Bethany, Missouri, he was the youngest of three siblings. His nickname "Mac" was a gift from his brother and sister, who felt that the name fitted him much better than "Sidney."Raised in a family who loved and appreciated music, Mac was a talented drummer from an early age. He took that talent into the US Navy, where he enlisted as a NavyMusician. Following his graduation from the Naval Conservatory School of Music, he served hiscountry from 1959 to 1963, stationed on the South Pacific islands of Guam, Saipan, and Tinian, and then at the Naval Station at Great Lakes, where he served as an instructor until the completion of his term of service. It was during his tour of Guam that he met the love of his life, Emily. After a two-year courtship, much of it by written letter, they were married on January 25, 1964, where he was warmly welcomed into Emily's family of no less than eleven siblings. From 1964 to 1972, Mac and Emily brought four children into their loving home: Joseph, Michael, Nancy, and Jane.In St Louis, Missouri, he began his life-long career as an accountant, first with the Moss American Corporation, and later moving to Oklahoma City and working for the Kerr-McGee Corporation until his retirement in 1999. He worked for two additional years with the Sonic Corporation, mixing his career and his love of music in the Sonic-Tones, the corporate executive stage band, winning high honors in the Battle of the Corporate Bands in Las Vegas.Mac's second career and true passion was big-band jazz music. For over 20 years, he performed as a drummer with Oklahoma favorite Floyd "Red" Rice and his Big Band. He also played for many years with the RoyalAires, the Al Good Orchestra, and the Silver Tops. He shared his passion for music with his children and grandchildren, inspiring many of them to take up music on the trumpet, trombone, violin, drums, guitar, keyboards, and voice.Through his busy and active life, Mac's deepest love was reserved for family. He was happiest when with family, and his favorite vacations were spent on family trips, visits with relatives, and family reunions.
