Sister Mary Victor Allain, Rsm

Sister Victor, beloved daughter of Willie V. Allain and Hilda O. Gascon Allain was born in Plaquemine, Louisiana. She enjoyed country living near a sugar cane plantation. Her happy home of 7 brothers and 4 sisters provided pleasant memories of the outdoors and her "little red school house". Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy, Webster Groves, MO on September 8, 1934 and made her first profession of vows March 12, 1937. Her Bachelors of Elementary Education degree from Loyola University enhanced Sister's ministry as a school teacher and librarian. She taught children at St. Francis Xavier, Vicksburg, Mississippi, and schools of Louisiana including St. Joseph, Jeanerette, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Kenner, Holy Name of Jesus, New Orleans, and St. Martin, Martinville. Sister visited women prisoners at New Orleans Parish Prison from 1968 until the building was destroyed by hurricane Katrina in 2005. Sister's ministries of education, visitation of prisoners and volunteerism will be remembered because of her kindness and compassion. Following her retirement to Mercy Convent, Oklahoma City, OK, March 2011, Sister's spiritual fidelity and acceptance of infirmities endeared her to all. Of special importance to her was the loving service provided by the dedicated co-workers and the remembrances from the faculty and children of former schools. She was preceded in death by parents, brothers, Arthur, Gerard, Rev. Fr. Thomas, James, Harry, Willie and baby David Allain; sisters, Louise Gibson, Mildred Granier, Sr. M. Benedict Allain, MSC, and Mary Lee "Pete" Barnes, beloved nephews, nieces, extended family and community members of the Sisters of Mercy. She is survived by devoted, faithful sister-in-law, Agnes Granier Allain, many nephews, nieces, cousins and their extended family members, Mercy physicians, co-workers/caretakers, Mercy Associates, friends, and Religious Sisters of Mercy.
