Sr. Elizabeth Ann Koberstein (born Myra Marie, August 31, 1930) returned to her Lord early in the morning of December 28, 2016. She was one of fourteen siblings being fifth in birth order to Henrietta (Bultman) Koberstein and Emery J. Koberstein both of whom preceded Sister in death. She left her Indiana home and entered the Carmelite Sisters of St. Therese on May 3, 1956. She professed her First Vows on January 25, 1958, and made her Final Profession of Vows on January 15, 1964. There were two things Sister held in great importance: loving and serving God and working with children. Sister was very skilled with her hands. She made many of the toys and furniture used in the 3-year-old nursery as well as stools, book cases and even a hutch used by the sisters. Sister was also a great cook. The number of rosaries she fashioned and/or repaired are too numerous to try to count. She had a great devotion to Mary, the Mother of God, and never ceased inviting people to pray the rosary. She received her LPN certification in 1961 and taught at Villa Teresa School in Oklahoma City, Little Flower School in Oklahoma City, and St. Patrick School in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. A majority of her years of service (about 35) were spent with three and four year old children - molding, guiding, teaching and being a living example of God for them. Sister was a positive, determined, and prayerful role model for her sisters in community and for all others she met and with whom she had dealings. After retiring, Sr. Elizabeth Ann spent many hours daily in prayer lifting up her family, her religious community, and those needing prayer. The Evening Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, December 30, 2016, and the Mass of Resurrection will be on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at 10:00 am. Both will be in the chapel of St. Ann Retirement Center, 7501 W. Britton Road, Oklahoma City. The Carmelite Sisters are grateful for the staff of St. Ann Nursing Home as well as the staff of St. Anthony Hospital who served well sister especially in her last hours. In lieu of flowers send contributions to SBJ'S Pantry c/o Carmelite Sisters of St. Therese, 7501 W. Britton Road, #140, Oklahoma City OK 73132.
