Sr. Mary Antonine Maca

Lillian Margaret was born to Peter John Maca and Emma Parizek Maca, in Yukon, Oklahoma, on March 1, 1926. She was the 4th of 5 children. Her siblings included her sister, Sister Mary Hortense, brother Martin and twin sister, Sister Mary Charlotte, and her brother Francis. Sister's earliest education was in the public schools in Yukon, Oklahoma and high school in Sacred Heart, El Reno, Oklahoma. In 1943, she graduated from Mount St. Mary's Academy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and entered the Sisters of Mercy following the vocation of her two sisters. Sister expressed the greatest debt to the Sisters of Mercy at Mount St. Mary's High School for their constant encouragement toward full development of every person. Sister's gifts were enhanced by her formal education through a BA at Saint Mary's College, Leavenworth, Kansas and MA at Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO. During her years of ministry in Oklahoma, Sister was missioned to teach at John Carroll School, Holy Angels, and Immaculate Conception in Oklahoma City; St. Benedict's, Shawnee, and Blessed Sacrament, Lawton. Sister also taught at Saint Alphonsus and Holy Name of Jesus School, New Orleans, LA.; St. Joseph's School, Slaton, TX.; St. Eustachius School, Portageville, MO. Sister's concern for the poor and dispossessed furthered her ministry by teaching English to Cambodian refugees in Oklahoma and assisting them in their re-settlement. She further ministered on the Sioux Wind River Indian Reservation in Eagle Butte, SD; St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain, SD.; Parish ministry at Our Lady of the Cove, Kimberling City, MO and St. William, Gainesville, MO. Throughout her life Sister continued to be in contact with former students, life-long Community members and loyal to her endeared family members. Former students kept up visits and correspondence to Sister. During her retirement she continued interest in Co-workers, their families and the events and activities related to the health ministry. Sister was daily present and faithful to Community spiritual events, activities and had a love and special devotion to the Rosary. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Immediate survivors include many beloved cousins and their families, Sisters of Mercy, co-workers, friends, former students, Mercy Associates, compassionate physicians and caregivers. Memorials may be extended to your charity of choice and Mount Saint Mary's Catholic High School, 2801 S, Shartel Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73109-2238. Wake and Rosary will be at 3:30pm, on Monday, May 15th and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 16th at Mercy Health Center Convent, OKC. Burial to follow at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, Oklahoma City, OK.
