Sister Mary Claver Young was born to Gerard Berchman Young and Therese Bendix Young in New Orleans, LA, on January 17, 1924. She enjoyed her family life with her two brothers and one sister. She attended elementary school at Sr. Francis Assisi, New Orleans, LA and High School at Redemptorist Girls High, New Orleans, LA. She received a B.S. in Education and Library Science at Loyola University New Orleans, LA. Sister entered the religious community on September 7, 1940, Webster Groves, MO. She made her first profession of religious vows on March 12, 1943, in Webster Groves, MO. Sister has ministered over 69 years with her skills of teaching and her talent as an excellent seamstress. Sister was missioned as a teacher at schools in Louisiana which included St. Francis Xavier School and St. Alphonsus Elem School, Holy Name of Jesus School in New Orleans and St. Joseph School in Jeanerette, LA. She was librarian at Mercy Center Conf/Retreat in St. Louis, MO; Holy Name of Jesus Mercy Academy in New Orleans, LA; and St. Francis Xavier Academy in Vicksburg, MS. Sister was also missioned to minister at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Medical Records, Central Dispatch, and Sewing at Vicksburg, MS. Sister later volunteered at Park View Regional Medical Center and Sisters of Mercy Convent at Vicksburg, MS and Mother of Mercy Convent in Frontenac, MO. Sister retired at Mercy Health Center Convent in Oklahoma City, OK on November 18, 2012. Throughout her life Sister continued to be in contact with her family, lifelong Community members and friends. She continued her interest in co-workers and Community events. She enjoyed sewing, knitting baby blankets, hats and booties, and creating beautiful greeting cards on her computer. She was faithful to Community spiritual events and graciously extended hospitality to all.She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Gerard and Robert Young and sister: Doris Young Finney. Immediate survivors include many beloved nieces, nephews and their families, Sisters of Mercy, co-workers, friends, former students, Mercy Associates, compassionate physicians, and caregivers.Mass of Christian Burial was on February 16, 2023, at Mercy Health Center Convent, OKC and burial was at Resurrection Cemetery. Celebrants were Rev. Gabriel Emuria and Deacon John Teague.
