Sr. Mary Eloise Morrison

Mary Frances was born to Patrick Morrison and Margaret O'Callaghan Morrison, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 2, 1919. She was the second oldest of 7 children. Her siblings included 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Sister resided and boarded at Mount St. Mary's School in Oklahoma City. Following high school graduation Sister entered the Religious Sisters of Mercy at Webster Groves, MO in September 1936 and professed her first vows as a Sister of Mercy in 1939. During her years of education ministry in Oklahoma, Sister was missioned to teach at St. Agnes, Ardmore; St. Francis, Canute; St. Benedict, Shawnee; Sacred Heart Indian School, Sacred Heart; Holy Angels, John Carroll, Immaculate Conception, St. Joseph, Sacred Heart, of Oklahoma City. Her Mercy service throughout her 50 years also included pastoral, social and parish ministry, volunteerism in hospitals, nursing homes, homebound services and Vietnamese refugee placement. Sister's Pastoral ministries were continued at Christ the King Church and other administrative support ministry at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, Ft. Smith, AR. Her gifts and talents were enhanced by her formal education through M.A., Ed., St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO; BA in Spanish Ed, Mt. St. Scholastica, Atchison, KS. In her active years of service Sister resided at St. Edward Mercy Convent and later retired to Catherine McAuley Convent, Barling, AR and was missioned to Mercy Convent, Oklahoma City, OK June 2015. Throughout her life Sister gave daily witness as a gentle, joyful person and along with her many talents she was first and foremost a true Sister of Mercy. She was admired and beloved by her young students, the homebound and coworkers in Oklahoma and Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Immediate survivors include her beloved nieces, nephews and their families, Sisters of Mercy, co-workers, friends, former students, Mercy Associates, compassionate physicians and caregivers. Memorials may be extended to your charity of choice and Mount St. Mary's High School, 2801 S, Shartel Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73109-2238. A wake and rosary will be at 4:00pm, on Friday, February 5th and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am on Saturday, February 6th at Mercy Health Center Convent, OKC.
