Stan Twardy

Stan Twardy, J.D., LL.M, most loving and beloved husband of Mrs. Ruth Maria Twardy for over 57 years, went to eternal rest into the loving arms of Our Lord Jesus Christ on July 20, 2012. He is survived by his adorable wife Mrs. Ruth Twardy. After serving in the armored corps in Italy towards the end of WWII, Stan spent three years in the Franciscan Order in Bethlehem and later studied for the priesthood in the Dominican Order. He left before making permanent vows or being ordained a priest, but at heart, he remained a lay Dominican for the rest of his life. He served as an intelligence analyst and interpreter in the Office of the U.S. Special Representative in Europe in Paris (Marshall Plan,) being fluent in several languages. He worked as a journalist for several leading newspapers and managing editor of the Oklahoma Courier, at the time the Catholic statewide diocesan newspaper. Later, he became chief of information for the Nuclear Energy Division of General Electric in San Jose, CA, and speech writer for top management of Standard Oil (Amoco) in Chicago. Stan earned his Juris Doctor and Master of Laws degrees from John Marshall Law School in Chicago; served as an Assistant State's Attorney in Chicago and Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma, and in later years, in private practice of law (civil only, never wanting to defend criminals.) He served two terms both as Faithful Navigator (head) of the 4th Degree Oklahoma City Assembly of the Knights of Columbus and President of the Alliance Francaise of Oklahoma City. Stan also represented Tinker Air Force Base and received the U.S. Air Force medal "For Selfless Sacrifice" and glowing commendations from two major generals. Stan's greatest hobbies were keeping informed of world affairs and animal photography.
