Ever faithful to his Rocky Mountain roots, Steve Haneborg was a lifelong Denver Broncos and Colorado State University Rams fan, a Coors vice president, distributor and connoisseur, and a hunter and fly fisherman extraordinaire who loved the New Mexico and Colorado mountain air as much as the magnificent Santa Fe sunsets. In addition to enjoying collecting Native American artifacts, French antiques and Southwestern art, his love for football also encompassed cheering on his daughter's TCU Horned Frogs and his son's OU Sooners. There wasn't a sport that Steve didn't follow or couldn't play. Whether on the track, the ski slopes, the golf course or on the tennis courts, this natural born athlete always looked and played the part. All of this was second only to the love of his family. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda, daughter Brooke, son Doug and daughter-in-law Ashley, sister Linda Griffis and husband Bill, sisters-in-law Janice Haneborg, Marie Tenborg and Susan Correa and husband Ricardo, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, his beloved dogs, Cheyenne and Cody, and a host of friends and admirers. Born in Denver, Colorado, he was a graduate of Cherry Creek High School and Colorado State University.
Steve never knew a stranger and loved everything he did in his business and community life. His multifaceted career included real estate, franchising, beer distributorships and investments. His business brought Steve and his family to Oklahoma twice. First, as a field representative for the Adolph Coors Company and later, after moves to Colorado, Texas and Iowa, he returned to Oklahoma City to work for Dick Ford, a man he highly admired, as vice president and general manager at Ford Distributing. In 1982, Steve bought Ford Enterprises. Although the company was then known as Coors Central, Steve as president and CEO, has been forever known as Mr. Coors in this community. He later sold the business but never lost his love or interest for the Adolph Coors Company and Oklahoma. At the time of his death, he was a real estate agent with Churchill-Brown and Associates. Active in the Oklahoma City community serving on numerous boards, he provided immeasurable support including sponsorships and underwriting. Through a multitude of endeavors, he was instrumental in many firsts. Among them, the Downtown OKC Beach Parties, Zoo Amphitheatre, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Bricktown Halloween celebrations, Aerospace America, speedboat, motocross and boxing promotions, Circle Club, Festival of the Arts, and Red Earth. He was involved in several organizations including Knights of Columbus, Search Ministries, Young Presidents Organization (YPO), Ducks and Trout Unlimited, Greater OKC Chamber of Commerce and Allied Arts.
Preceding him in death were his parents Harold and Doris Haneborg, his daughter Heather Haneborg, brother Larry Haneborg and brother-in-law James Tenborg.
