Steven Curtis Cunningham died May 3, 2014 in Oklahoma City. He was 59. Born Sept. 27, 1954 in Oklahoma City, he attended Yukon schools and graduated from Yukon High School in 1972. He was a YHS Miller football player throughout junior high and high school. He attended Central State University to play football then transferred to the University of Oklahoma. Exceptionally proficient in math and science, he maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout his educational career. Steven also tutored children who were struggling with math and other subjects in school. He worked at his father's company, Order-Matic Corporation, for several years. He was preceded in death by his father, William B. Cunningham in 2011 and his mother, Ernestine E. Cunningham in 2008. Known for his generous spirit and sense of humor, his two children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He is survived by one son, Derek Cunningham, Midwest City; one daughter, Stevie Simpson, Oklahoma City; one brother, Greg Cunningham, sister-in-law Lucretia Cunningham, two nieces, Megan Sanford of Edmond and Erin Sloan of Williamsburg, Va.; two grandsons, Jaden Polston and Kai Simpson, both of Oklahoma City, and three granddaughters, Marley Simpson, Oklahoma City, Chloe Cunningham and Brielle Cunningham, both of Midwest City; two great nieces, Emma Sloan of Williamsburg, Va., and Meredith Sanford of Edmond, one great nephew, Garrison Sloan of Williamsburg, Va.; one uncle, Oliver Lurry of Seminole and aunt, Gloria Lurry also of Seminole. He is also survived by a host of cousins and friends. A memorial service will be Thursday, May 22, 1 p.m. at Chi Gallery, 2304 N.W. 17th St. in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made in Steven's name to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Jim Riley Outreach.
