Sue Ellis

Sue was born on December 12, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Her birth name was Helen Marie Adams. When the nurse brought the baby to Mary Adams, she said, “Here is your little Suzie Q!” She has been Sue ever since. Sue died on June 16, 2024, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Sue is survived by her husband John W. Ellis, M.D., daughter, Anne Foltz, son John M. Ellis, granddaughter, Ashton Ellis, two grandsons Joshua Foltz and Max Havenstrite, and great granddaughter, Lola Foltz.

Sue was raised in Nicoma Park, Oklahoma. Her father died when she was 11 so her mother, Mary Adams, learned to drive and to use a typewriter. Mary worked for the First State Bank of Jones and put her two children, Bill and Sue, through college.

Sue married John Ellis in 1963 and put him through medical school teaching 9th grade math.

Sue’s daughter, Anne, was born in Oklahoma City on October 12, 1968. In 1969, Sue and Anne sent food and tapes to John while he was an Army Flight Surgeon in Vietnam. In 1973, after the Army, John, Sue and Anne moved to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and on March 13, 1973, son, John Michael, was born.

In 1973, Sue met her Jesus. Her reverent and chaste behavior and sudden ability to not worry got her husband’s attention. Six months later John accepted Jesus Christ. Sue loved Bible study and was prayer a warrior. Sue’s great talent was that she was a listener and loved people. People were drawn to her sweet and gentle spirit.
