Susan Chesnut Sturm

Suzy left this world suddenly on October 16, 2022, at their home in Scottsdale, AZ. Born in Oklahoma City on July 17, 1945, to Aubrey Edwin Chesnut and Genevieve Bernice Alguire Chesnut, she was 77. She married J. Christopher Sturm on May 23,1971, and was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dr. Kent Chesnut, and her beloved dog Grady. She is survived by Chris, her loving husband of 51 years; son John, daughter-in-law Sara Lewis and grandson Henry from Portland, OR; her twin sister Elaine Fashimpaur of OKC; brother Dr. Dan Chesnut and his wife Gudbjorg from Norway; sister-in-law Suzy Burnett, & brother-in-law Ed Sturm both from OKC.Suzy attended Gulf Park College and Colorado College where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She continued her education beyond earning her BA from OU going on to obtain a PhD at OSU. She specialized in child development —a discipline that reflected her love of children during their early learning —and went on to work with the Junior League of OKC for the creation of The Infant Center at the OU Children's Hospital. Across some 51 years of marriage, she and Chris traveled widely. But it was her journeys inward that ultimately came to inspire and guide her most of all. A consummate reader and student of a great variety of spiritual works and teachers, she was ever seeking inner peace and joy. The great love and kindness she gave to all those in her life reflect her work on this path. We will gather to honor her memory and pay our respects on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home located at 14624 North May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73134.
