Sylvia Ann Spies, age 85, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, in Oklahoma City. Ann was born on July 30, 1938, to Lewis and Leona Kentner in Oklahoma City. She attended school in Vinita, OK, and graduated from Sallisaw High School. After moving to Oklahoma City for work, Ann met her husband, Harold Major Spies, who worked for Ford Motor Co. Ann and Major were married on September 25, 1960, and remained in Oklahoma City for the remainder of their lives, raising their children, enjoying family and friends, and serving at Britton Christian Church and New Covenant Christian Church.
Ann loved her family and was the consummate homemaker. While Major traveled with Ford, Ann took care of her children, driving them to piano lessons, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, band practices, as well as a host of other activities. She loved working in the yard and making sure her house was “just right.” Ann also took care of her mother, Leona, and her sister, Karen, as their health declined and they were confined to nursing homes along with her brother, David, in the last year of his life. She modeled well what it meant to serve those in need.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Major Spies; her parents, Lewis and Leona Kentner; her brother, David Kentner; and her sisters, Karen Sue Mackey and Barbara Jane Wheeler. She is survived by her son, Scott Richard Spies of Dallas, TX, and her daughter, Stephanie Gail Andrews, of Ardmore, OK. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Spies and his wife, Judy, of Weatherford, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Ann has asked that memorial donations be made to the Disabled Veterans Association (DAV) or Salvation Army, two of her beloved charities.
