Sylvia Sue Svec (Schwachhofer) was born on March 31, 1947 in Muskogee, OK to Theodore and Margaret Schwachhofer. She passed away on June 30, 2012 after her brave fight with colon cancer. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughters, Lace Svec of Statesboro, GA and Aspen Svec-Bessinger and her husband Josh of Yukon, OK; their Father, Robert Svec of Ft. Worth, TX; granddaughter, Lillian Bessinger; and her loving pets, Blackberry and Bunny. Sylvia always knew how to have fun, celebrating life with her friends and classmates. She always aspired to experience the world. After she recieved her BFA at the University of Oklahoma, she enjoyed moving and living in many difference place including Germany, New Jersey, Idaho, California, Alaska, Oregon and Texas. Sylvia was a dedicated friend and loving mother who put her career on hold to raise her two daughters. She served as an outstanding Girl Scout Troop Leader and accompanied her daughters to dance camps, recitals and gymnastics meets. Sylvia was an award winning teacher and art advocate. Her adventurous spirit allowed her to live life with passion immersing herself in activites like skiing, theatre, dance, sports, art, travel, fitness, cooking, health and more! Sylvia fulfilled a lifelong dream to study and teach art history when she earned her Master's of Art in Art History at the age of 58. She began a new career exemplified by her writing contribution to the critically acclaimed book, "In the Studios of Paris, William Bougereau and his American Students". Later, Sylvia continued her love for teaching art history at numerious colleges online and in San Antonio, TX. A Celebration of Sylvia's life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Smith & Kernke Chapel, followed by a gathering of friends & family. Interment will be held on a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colon Cancer Alliance.
