Thomas Andrew Murphy, 76, passed away Wednesday April 23, 2014, in Oklahoma City, OK. Tom was born on July 1st, 1937 to Helen (Seiler) and Clifford James (Pat) Murphy in Oklahoma City. He is a lifelong Oklahoman, attended Bishop John Carroll Catholic grade school and graduated from Catholic High School (Bishop McGuinness) in 1955. He attended Regis Jesuit University in Denver, Colorado where he graduated with a B.A. in Business in 1959. Tom served in the Oklahoma Air National Guard for six years. He entered into the family business, Murphy Perkins Ready-Mix Concrete Company, in 1959 where he worked for 35 years and served as Vice-President of the Company. He retired in 1992. He later worked for First American Title for 16 years. In all of his pursuits Tom acted with dedication, integrity and loyalty. He was a devout member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish for 47 years. He served his parish and Rosary Catholic School in many capacities. He was a member of the school board, President of the Home and School Association, coached boys' basketball and was a communion minister and usher. He was preceded in death by his mother Helen and his father Pat; brother James Murphy and sister Margaret Ann Vater. Tom is survived by his wife Jane of 53 years, children Mark Murphy; Anne Marie Simmons, her husband Mark and their children Megan, Caitlin and Daniel; and Melanie Jester and her husband Bryan and their children Ramie and Adam. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Maier. He will be remembered for his love of family, his gentleness, his kindness and his regard and generosity to others. Those who wish to pay their respects may visit at Smith and Kernke Funeral Home between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014. Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 26th, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church to be followed by internment at Memorial Park Cemetery. "Help me to conquer anger with gentleness, greed by generosity, apathy by fervor. Help me to forget myself, and to reach out towards others".
