Thomas Corbett

Thomas was born on April 29, 1915 in Winona, Minnesota, the son of Theodore Corbett and Cecile (Czapiewski) Corbett and passed away on November 16, 2013 at his home. He married Betty DeMars in 1943. Tom had a love for baseball from a very young age. His prized possession was a baseball signed by Babe Ruth which was awarded to him in 1928. He played for the Oklahoma Indians and Tulsa Oilers from 1938-1940 even room mating with his teammate Dizzy Dean. Tom was an umpire from 1956-1972 and during that time he also scouted for his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1940 he continued his love for baseball managing a semi-pro baseball team, the Wilson Packers, for 10 years. He was a long time supervisor at Wilson and Company until retiring in 1977. He was a handyman who loved talking about pastimes and politics. He was a charter member of Christ the King Catholic Church and attended Mass every Sunday. He recently resided at St. Ann's Retirement Center where he took part in all activities and loved all the people he was around. Tom loved to fish, travel and go to the casinos every chance he had. He is survived by his daughter, Joan Joyce (Michael) of Fargo, ND; two sons, Steven T. Corbett (Karolyn) of Oklahoma City; Chris Corbett (Nancy) of Oklahoma City; one brother, Ted Corbett of Conn.; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and his companion Pearl Sparks of Edmond. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and his wife Betty in 2003. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home followed by an Evening Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann's Retirement Center.
