Thomas T. Jones

Tom T. Jones, Sr. went to be with his Lord on December 26, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 26, 1919 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He proudly graduated from Texas A&M University in 1940 and joined the U.S. Army. Major Tom T. Jones proudly served his country as part of the Corps of Engineers for 6 years during World War II. He married the love of his life, May Tillar Sanders on May 3, 1945 and they shared 56 wonderful years together. After the war, Tom went into the oil & gas business as a petroleum engineer. He spent many, many nights through the years on oil rigs in West Texas. After retiring at age 72, he began volunteering at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Center. He loved taking people on tours of "The Hall" and found a new career as a storyteller. Many a child fell in love with his Rattlesnake tale. He would also tell stories to other children's groups. A member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, he enjoyed being a tutor with Whiz Kids for 6 years. Tom lived life to the fullest, laughing and telling stories to the end. People would often ask Tom what his secret was to living such a long, happy life and he would reply, "Red meat, good whiskey and wild, wild women". Tom is preceded in death by his wife; his son, Thomas Temple Jones, Jr.; and his brother Eldridge Madison Jones. Survivors include his sister, Mary Fowler Jones Knopf of Little Rock, AR; sons, Eddie and wife Lisa Jones and Neal and wife Lexie Jones, both of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Lyn and husband Larry Clements of Yukon, OK; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 9am-5pm on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Smith & Kernke. The Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
