Thornton Wright, Jr.

Joseph Thornton Wright, Jr. died July 6, 2024. He was born October 25, 1930 in Bowie, Texas to parents, Thornton and Charlotte Wright. Barbara June Wright, his beloved wife of fifty years preceded him in death and they are now reunited. He is survived by children Joseph Thornton Wright, III and his wife Judith Ann, James Michael McGee and his wife, Sherri and Laurie Paulette Newman; grandchildren Emily Louesa Newman, Allison June Kinney and husband John, Paige Elizabeth McGee Erickson and husband Jon, Paul Thornton McGee and wife Christina, Justin Michael McGee and wife Camryn, Brian Wesley Prewitt; and great-grandchildren Caroline Paige, Miles Jon and Anna Elizabeth Erickson and Alexandra Paige and Charlotte Rae McGee.

Thornton graduated from Classen High School in 1948 and proudly served as Vice President of the school and of his senior class. He graduated from Oklahoma University in 1954 with degrees in Business Administration and Law. He was a member of Kappa Sigma and Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity. Following his service in the USAF (1954-1956) as Judge Advocate, he practiced law in Oklahoma City from 1956 to 2008, with the exception of eight years as a Special Judge of the District Court of Oklahoma County. He was a member of the Oklahoma County Bar Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association and in May had received his seventy-year pin from the Oklahoma Bar Association. He was admitted to practice in the Courts of Oklahoma the Federal Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, the Tenth Circuit Court and the Supreme Court of the United States. He was a commercial pilot, instrument rated and had logged 1500 hours as a pilot. His hobbies were golf, fishing and quail hunting. His favorite pastime was being with his wife, June, and family. He was proud to have served as President of the Oklahoma Society to Prevent Blindness, Golf, Inc. and Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. He was confirmed in the Episcopal Church on April 25, 1954 and maintained his faith through life. 

Thornton was blessed to have wonderful care during the last two years of his life, including Victoria, Jessica and Leah; Crissa and Stephanie with Mercy Home Health, and Integris Hospice for helping him through his last days.

 Service will be conducted at Rose Hill Burial Park, Oklahoma City on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11:00 am.
