Tony Newcomb

Tony Lee Newcomb peacefully went home to his eternal Father surrounded by his three loving children. His long struggle with Parkinson's disease ended on April 15th, 2014. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 6th, 1941. He was the eldest of eleven children and lived in Oklahoma City most of his life. Tony was a proud alumnus of Classen High School, and attended the University of Oklahoma (becoming a diehard Sooner fan) and Oklahoma City University, before pursing a career in which he was known as the "t-shirt man." To say he was social is an understatement. He was involved in many societies and clubs including Kappa Alpha Order, the Masons and the Shriners—where he was a clown, the Elks Lodge, the OKC Ski Club, and the OKC Corvette Club. Tony's legacy is his t-shirt business, Tony Newcomb T-Shirts, which he started in his garage in 1973. If you have lived in the Oklahoma City metro in the last 41 years, you probably own one of Tony Newcomb's t-shirts! Tony also knew how to throw a party. For 31 years friends and even strangers enjoyed an evening of music and fun at Tony Newcomb's Annual Chili Cook-off and T-Shirt Party at the Elks Lodge in Oklahoma City. Tony was preceded by the death of his father, Howard Newcomb, and his brother, Ralph Newcomb. He is survived by his three children, Allison, Tyler, and Amy, his mother, Eudeana Newcomb, his siblings, Sammy Wolohon (Harry), Frank Newcomb (Sherri), Leigh Cope, Nora Newcomb, Vicki Williams (Fletcher), Margaret Gorrell (Chuck), Deana Newcomb, Dorothy Newcomb, and Jacqi Roueche (Tom), and multiple nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. The family would like to invite all those whose lives were impacted by Tony to celebrate his vibrant life. We ask one favor—please wear bright colors or your favorite Tony Newcomb t-shirt to his services. Visitation will be Thursday, April 17 from 5-8 p.m. at Smith & Kernke, N. May. A graveside will be held Friday, April 18 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Mayflower Congregational Church, 3901 NW 63rd Street.
