Our greatly beloved daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt, Valerie passed into the next life after a courageous and hard-fought battle with failing health. She had a 30-year career as a Certified Nursing Assistant where she practiced what her proud mother called "God's work. " Specializing in caring for the elderly, she doted on her beloved residents. Val was an original in every way; fiercely independent, single-minded, extremely kind, fun-loving and vivacious. While a ray of sunshine has gone out of our lives, the family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Deaconess Hospital ICU and AMG Recovery Hospital for their excellent medical and compassionate care. Due to their combined efforts, we were able to spend additional precious time with her. She is predeceased by mother Marge Atteberry, and is survived by father Glenn Atteberry, brother Paul and his wife Yesenia, sister Elizabeth and her husband Rich, and sister Ramona. Her nieces include Annie Brooks and husband Ryan, Madi Parks and Natalie Atteberry, and nephews Nate Fisher and Nicholas Atteberry, grandnieces and nephew Saylor and Evie Brooks, and Sam Brooks. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday and an evening prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Smith and Kernke, 14624 N. May. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens will follow a Mass of Christian Burial, Friday 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5024 N. Grove.
