Velma Lois Darr-King died peacefully in her home on January 21, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Velma was born on July 29, 1920 in Freedom, Oklahoma to Geoffrie and Ruth Darr. Velma and Willard were married in 1940 in Buffalo, Oklahoma.
Velma is survived by her sister Betty Ann Gray and her husband Larry, her six children Norval King and wife Bonnie, Kathy Conwell and husband Bobby, Doak King and wife Carolyn, Kyle King, Cindy Arwood and husband Jim and Tammy Brummell. Velma is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Velma is preceded in death by her husband Willard King, parents Geoffrie and Ruth Darr and four siblings Jimmie Darr, Johnnie Darr, Peggy Stephens and Ruby Lou Conway.
Velma raised six children while Willard carried out his career in the military. Velma took great pride in being a homemaker and caring for her family. As part of Willard's military career they lived in France for three years. While living in France they traveled to several European countries. In addition to living overseas, they were stationed in Ft. Sam Houston and Ft. Sill. After becoming a grandmother, she went back to school and became a nurse. Nursing was her passion. After working for the Enid State School for 18 years, she and Willard retired and eventually moved to Oklahoma City. A few of the many things she was excellent at were sewing, cooking and dancing. She enjoyed family gatherings, friends, music and fashion.
