Victor "Vic" Emil Newton was born Feb. 17, 1923, to Robert and Ruth Newton in Marrero, LA. Victor departed this world on Dec. 9, 2011. Vic is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruby; daughter, Carol Hunter and her husband Rick; sister, Ruth Barkley; grandsons, Sam Terral, Brandon Terral, David Newton and Phillip Newton; and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, David; two brothers and one sister. Vic worked as a civil servant at Hickam Field AFB at Pearl Harbor shortly after the Japanese invasion. He then entered the USAF, serving for two years following WWII. He then moved to OKC where he completed an accomplished lifetime civil service career at Tinker AFB and where he met his lifetime loving partner, "Ruby Jo". He not only believed in the Methodist Church religion, but he practiced it each and every day. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for 50 years, prior to joining St. Luke's United Methodist where he served the past 13 years. Vic served on the Finance Committee at church and was a Scout Master. Victor was a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite, in which he was a member most of his adult life. He was also a member of the Ball & Chain Club through the YMCA for 61 years. All who met Vic knew him to be an extraordinarily honest and kind man who never spoke ill of others. He was loved by many and liked by all. We will miss him deeply. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. at Smith & Kernke. A celebration of Vic's life will be held Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at 2 p.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church Watchorn Chapel, 222 NW 15th St. Memorial contributions in Vic's name may be made to the church or to a charity of choice.
