Viola Sophia Befort, 85, passed away on August 21, 2018. She was born on June 10, 1933 in Great Bend, Kansas to Fred and Katherine Meyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, two sisters and four brothers.
Viola married Joseph in August of 1954 and shortly after moved to Oklahoma City. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was a wonderful "mom" to many of the neighborhood children. She had a compassionate heart and was always taking care of her friends and neighbors. Throughout her life, she was involved in her girl's school and outside activities. She had a passion for scouting and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. She liked spending time with her sisters doing the latest arts and crafts. You might say she did Pinterest, before there was Pinterest.
Viola is survived by her daughters Connie, Kayla Knox and her husband Randy, her grandson Conrad Harder and granddaughter Katherine Knox, all in Oklahoma City. She leaves great memories with her many nieces and nephews and all of her friends and extended family.
A special thanks to St. Ann's Nursing Home staff and Mercy Hospice for making her last few weeks comfortable. We are forever grateful to the staff of Heart Care at Home, along with her caregivers; Teresa, Carol and Mary. We are especially thankful for Loydia who was not only Viola's caregiver, but provided great support for her daughters and family and has become part of their extended family.
Viola's family will be present to greet friends during an evening visitation at the Smith & Kernke Chapel, 14624 N May Ave on Thursday, August 23 from 5 to 7 pm. A funeral service will be celebrated at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery Chapel on Friday, August 24 at 2:00 pm followed by the burial.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alliance of Women for Alzheimer's Research and Education (AWARE) at the Alzheimer's Association, 6601 N Broadway Ext. Suite 120, Oklahoma City, OK 73116
