Virginia Lee "Ginny" Jacobs

Virginia Lee (Ginny) Jacobs passed into the arms of her savior on February 5, 2020, at the age of 80 years old. She was born October 22, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Vera Dean Gill and William (Bill) Gill, Jr. She graduated from Casady High School in 1957 where she made many lifelong friends. She then attended Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart and the University of Oklahoma where she was an active member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, received a BA and made many lifelong friends. In 1961, Ginny married Denver Meacham II and they had two sons, Scott Meacham and Greg Meacham. After serving several years as a military wife, Ginny and her family moved to Clinton, Oklahoma, where she was active in the community and made many lifelong friends. After her divorce, Ginny and her boys moved to Edmond so she could attend UCO where she received a BA in Elementary Education and a Masters in Early Childhood Education. She then was hired by the Chickasha Public Schools to teach in the Head Start Program. In 1972, she married Norman Lee Jacobs and became the step-mother to his two daughters, Paula Walker, and Cheryl Logsdon. Over the years she became especially close with Paula and her husband, Boyd, and their family. In Chickasha, Ginny again made many lifelong friends and became a long-time elementary principal and an administrator in the Chickasha Public School System before retiring after 26 years of service. After retirement, Ginny and Norman moved to Oklahoma City for a few years to care for her mother. After her mother's death, she and Norman moved to the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee where they built their dream house in Wears Valley. They lived the "good life" in Tennessee for a number of years where, once again, Ginny made many lifelong friends. Eventually, Norman became ill and he insisted they move back to Oklahoma City so she would be close to her children and grandchildren. Norman passed away in 2011 and she lost her best friend.Ginny filled the void in her life by getting deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, by getting involved in her church, Crossings Community Church (including her bible study group), and by volunteering at the Crossings Community Clinic where, once again, she made many new friends. After living alone several years, Ginny decided a few years ago to move into Spanish Cover Retirement Village where she volunteered in the marketing office and enjoyed every minute of her life until the very end and again made many new friends in the staff and residents of Spanish Cove. Ginny's family wants to give a special "thank you" to her dear friends Beverly Smith, Claudell White, and Jonne Johnson, as well as Kelli, Faith and the rest of the staff at Spanish Cove, and Victoria with Mercy Hospice for the love and care they showed her during her final days.Ginny was preceded in death by her parents and Norman, who are celebrating with her today in heaven. She is survived by her son, Scott Meacham, and his wife, Susan; her son, Greg Meacham, and his wife, Kelley; her former daughter-in-law, Janice Taylor, and her husband, Don; her step-daughter, Paula Walker, and her husband, Boyd; and her step-daughter, Cheryl Logsdon. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Trevor Pletcher, and his wife, Amber; Evan Meacham, and his wife, Leah; Kady Pletcher; Connor Meacham; Morgan Meacham; Lucas Meacham; and Seth Meacham, and two step-grandchild, Joanne Patrick and her husband, Ricky, and Tim Jones and his wife, Ruth. She is survived by four great grandchildren, SJ Alexander, Stormy Alexander, Piper Pletcher and Colt Pletcher, and four step-great grandchildren, Preston and Brayden Patrick and Riley and AJ Jones, as well as cousins and countless friends. The most important things to Ginny in this world were her faith, her family, her church and her friends. She lived a life of service, faith and love that inspired those who were fortunate enough to come into contact with her. Funeral services will be Monday, February 10, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Crossings Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Spanish Cove, Crossings Community Church or the American Cancer Society (Hope Lodge Project) in her name.
