Virginia M. Morozuk (nee Frances Virginia Moore), 88, died peacefully at Bellevue Nursing Center on Tuesday evening, November 17, 2008 of long term medical conditions resulting from her stroke in 1991. Virginia was born on September 11, 1921 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Jay Gould Moore and Bertha Mae Moore. Her father taught her a love of the outdoors which she carried into adult life as an avid fisherwoman and member of the Oklahoma Woods & Water Club. She loved dogs and won several awards in field trials with her Brittany spaniel, King, during the late 1960s. In 1977, Virginia and best friend Doris Raddis spent 7days floating down the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System by themselves in a 17 foot outboard motor boat. When her son went to college at OU, Virginia became active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity Mother's Club. She enjoyed it so much that she continued to be active in the club for another 15 years after her son graduated. Virginia turned her enthusiasm to fine arts when Carpenter Square Theatre was founded, serving as a bartender and long term member of the board of directors. Her love of state and local history led her to work as a tour host for Territorial Tours in Oklahoma City. She was also a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Red Hat Society. Although paralyzed on her left side by a stroke at age 69, Virginia continued to lead an active life and travel thanks to assistance from many friends and family members. A highlight of her travels was winning first place with a large cash prize in a Slot Machine Tournament at the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas in 2002. Virginia was predeceased by her mother and father, her sister Helen G. Moore and her loving husband of 50 years, John Morozuk who died in 1995. She is survived by her sister, Darlene M. Hammond; her son John J. Morozuk; nephew Wallace M. Hammond, his wife Shari and their family; niece Harriet K. Weirich and her family; brother-in-law Alex Morozuk and his wife Dorothy; step daughter Annette Oleniewski, her husband Walter and their family.
