April 5, 1932 — July 21, 2017

Walter A. "Jack" Nashert, Jr.

Born in Oklahoma City on April 5, 1932, to Walter A. Sr. and Lola Stogner Nashert, Jack attended St. Joseph school in Oklahoma City. He graduated from University of Notre Dame in 1954, with a degree in Civil Engineering, and became a registered Professional Engineer. After a short time in the Army, Jack returned to Oklahoma City to work with his dad at Walter Nashert and Sons Inc. He spent his entire career as a commercial general contractor – first with his dad and then his own company, Nashert Constructors. Many iconic buildings were the result of his efforts. One of the sites of which he was most proud is the Ron Norick Arena at the Oklahoma State Fair Park. Following the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building, he spearheaded the restoration of St. Joseph's Old Cathedral and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He also constructed the "And Jesus Wept" memorial across from the bombing site. Always active in his community, Jack served on many boards – civic, religious, and philanthropic – too many to name. He was generous with his time and money and enjoyed coaching and mentoring. Jack had an enormous heart and very strong Catholic faith. He was one of the founding members of Christ the King Church and School and remained very involved throughout his life. Before his illness, he was an active member in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. Jack is preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Brandt Nashert, and daughter, Dayna Nashert Dunnagan. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Nashert, his children Wally (Julie) Nashert, Chele (Gary) Gatewood, and Brandt Nashert, his step-children Jim (Susan) Abernathy and DiAnn Mackey, as well as 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oklahoma City, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org). The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Autumn Leaves of Edmond and Alpha Hospice for taking such great care of Jack.
