Wayne Elton Leuszler, 97, died January 7, 2022, at his apartment at Quail Creek Senior Living in Oklahoma City, OK. He passed away peacefully in his sleep of heart failure in the presence of his family.Wayne was born March 25, 1924, in a farmhouse outside Almena, KS, the son of Earl Wayne and Zelma Sophia Carolina Leuszler. His high school was so small that all the boys had to play football to have a team, and they had to change at halftime and become the band. He was president of his 1942 Senior Class. He attended Fort Hays, Kansas, Junior College prior to enlisting in the US Navy where he became an Aviation Gunner during WWII. Wayne met his future wife, Jo Ann Hubatka, at a USO Dance in Norman, OK, while he was stationed at South Base; they married October 4, 1945. After receiving an honorable discharge from the US Navy following WWII, he continued his education at Oklahoma University, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent his entire career working for oil and gas equipment manufacturing companies.He was known as "Mr. Fix It". He loved tinkering, square dancing, playing bridge, and watching OU Football. He most enjoyed being a loving and caring grandpa. He was an active member of Village Christian Church, Young Men's Club and Toastmasters.Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, JoAnn; parents; brother, Donald Leuszler; and sisters, Twila Lindfors and Wilva Magdeburg. He is survived by a brother, Harlan Leuszler of Trinidad, CO; son, Dr. Richard Leuszler and wife C.C. of Oklahoma City; daughter, Helen Smith and husband Steve of Rockwall, TX; niece, Marilyn Emberson of Oklahoma City; 5 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.The family wishes to thank the staff at Quail Creek Assisting Living in Oklahoma City for their excellent, loving care of Wayne.In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Village Christian Church, 9401 Ridgeview Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73120.There will not be a funeral at this time; however, the family will announce a graveside service this spring.
