Wendell Don Cavin was born July 5, 1955, in Bartlesville, Okla., and passed away Jan. 20, 2013, in Edmond, Okla. He was the son of Donald Lee Cavin and Loretta Gayle (Love) Cavin. Wendell was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from Southeast High School in 1973. He attended the University of Houston and later the University of Oklahoma where he obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Wendell married Sallie Dean Simms on Dec. 30, 1977, and had two children Lee Wendell and Lauren Dean and two grandchildren during their 35 years of marriage. Wendell spent 30 years of his professional career with AT&T in commercial real estate. He was an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with his Adventurers Sunday School classmates and various bible study groups. Wendell treasured his friends and faithfully met with his "Men's Lunch" group on Mondays. He was always eager for a spur-of-the-moment dinner or sporting event, especially OU basketball games with his son. Wendell enjoyed working with his hands like his father. His pride and joy was his family. Wendell was preceded in death by his father Donald Cavin; grandparents, Lora Barnett, Bertha and Lee Cavin. He is survived by his wife, Sallie Cavin; son Lee Cavin and his wife Danielle; daughter Lauren Whitney and her husband Blake; grandchildren Max Cavin and Parker Whitney; mother, Loretta Cavin; brother, Wade Cavin; plus a multitude of uncles and cousins. Services will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2013, at Smith & Kernke on N. May Ave. Memorial donations may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
