William E. "Bill" Wildey passed away January 13, 2014, in Oklahoma City. He was born October 2, 1923, in Sapulpa, OK. He entered the US Army Air Corps October 6, 1942, in Oklahoma City. Bill was the last surviving member of his crew in the 394thSquadron of the 5th Bomb Group. He was a First Lieutenant and served as a pilot on a B-24, completing 36 bombing missions in the Pacific Theater with the 13th Air Force. As his crew was returning to base after his plane dropped the last bomb of WWII, President Truman announced that the war was over and they should come back. After receiving an honorable discharge January 10, 1946, he moved to Texas and attended Texas A & M where he studied electrical engineering. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister, and his wife, Grace O'Briant Wildey. He is survived by many great nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. There will be no viewing, however, you may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. and the family will be present from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 16 at Smith & Kernke May Chapel. A private entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park Abbey at a later time.
