William Robert Gray, affectionately known as "Bill," was born on May 30, 1955, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after a short illness. Bill was the beloved son of William Russell Gray and Geraldine Faye Gray (Willis).
Following his graduation from high school in Lawton, he married Ivellise on June 1, 1976. Bill chose to serve his country in the United States Coast Guard, dedicating four years of his life to this noble service. Their journey together took them to Alameda, California, where Bill continued his service in the Coast Guard. In 1979, the family settled back in Norman, Oklahoma. He studied and graduated at the University of Oklahoma in the Business School; during his time in college him and his wife Ivellise welcomed their first son, Tristan, in 1980, followed by a beautiful daughter, Maia, in 1986. Bill and Ivellise eventually divorced on January 4, 1995.
His passion for service continued as he reenlisted and became an esteemed member of the Oklahoma National Guard, serving diligently for a total of 40 years, primarily as a technician.
In 1990, during a pivotal moment in his career, Bill met Paula, who was a nurse at the time, amidst Operation Desert Storm. Their relationship flourished over the years, leading to their marriage in 2003. Bill’s commitment to his country called him to serve once more when he was invited on a tour in Afghanistan from 2003 to 2004.
In his retirement, Bill found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, Conner and Duncan, and indulging his love for travel, bicycling and hiking. He was deeply devoted to his family and friends, cherishing the memories made with them.
Bill is survived by his wife, Paula, his daughter Maia, and son-in-law Sam, as well as his mother, Geraldine. He was preceded in death by his son, Tristan Gray, and his father, William Russell Gray.
