William "Bill" Thomas Sheets passed from this life on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 12, 1927, in Enid, OK to Gladys (Gallagher) and Merle Richard Sheets, he spent his formative years in Enid before honorably serving in the Navy during WW II and graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in law. He worked in the New York metropolitan area as an FBI agent before returning to Enid and marrying the love of his life Jean Howard Sheets on February 6, 1954. They lived in Oklahoma City, OK briefly before moving to Duncan, OK to raise their family. They lived there happily for fifty-seven years where he worked as a lawyer for Halliburton until retiring in 1985. In 2013, Bill and Jean returned to Oklahoma City to be closer to family.
Bill was an adventurer in body, mind and spirit. He enjoyed travel and took his family on road trips as far east as New York to the World's Fair and west to the Pacific Coast Highway. In retirement, Bill and Jean continued their travels north, driving the ALCAN Highway to explore the Alaskan countryside. He was a voracious reader with a sharp mind able to recall, years later, obscure passages in great detail. He was also a gifted storyteller with the skill to tell a witty joke in one moment and a beautiful tale in the next.
He was, above all, a devout Christian and life-long Methodist. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Duncan and later of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.
He was a good man who will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by parents, sister Rose Ann Pritchard and brother James Franklin Sheets.
