William Wesley "Bill" Brooks passed away Sept. 3, 2011. He was born on April 6, 1929, in Oklahoma City, the son of William Washington Brooks and Lois Cation Brooks. He graduated from Classen High School in 1947 and entered the University of Oklahoma. As a member of the Air Force ROTC, he was called to active duty, serving in Japan during the Korean conflict where he received the Korean Silver Medal of Honor. Following his return in March of 1953, he completed his BS in Petroleum Engineering at OU and was honorably discharged from the Air Force Reserve with the rank of Major. Bill worked with his father to own and operate WW Brooks Insurance Agency, retiring in 2005. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Crabtree Brooks; son, David and his wife, Kathleen; daughter, Allison and her husband Curtis Graham; and five grandchildren, Peter Graham, Jack, Ford, Sarah Jane and Michael Brooks. Bill was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and deacon. He enjoyed sailing and was a former member of the Oklahoma City Boat Club. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 3:00pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N. Shartel.
